Dr Gebril El-Fallah was appointed as Lecturer in the Mechanics of Materials Group within the University of Leicester's School of Engineering in early 2022. Before arriving in Leicester, Gebril completed a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (2013) and a master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Imperial College London (2015) followed by a PhD at University of Cambridge (2019), where he worked in the Phase Transformations and Complex Properties research group. He was a Research Associate in Cambridge for one year following his PhD, a Teaching Fellow and a Director of Studies at Wolfson College, Cambridge. Gebril also holds a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Wang Pengxin graduated from the Institute of New Materials Technology at Beijing University of Science and Technology in 2022. His research direction was corrosion continuous monitoring and big data technology. From 2022 to 2023, he worked at NISCO New Materials Research Institute, focusing on machine learning-based prediction of the mechanical properties of steel. In 2023, he began studying for a PhD at the University of Leicester with a research focus on designing bainitic reduced-activation steels for fusion applications.

Yian Lin graduated with first-class honors in his bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering (2021) and achieved distinction in his master's degree in Materials and Chemical Engineering (2024), both from Xi'an Jiaotong University. His master's research focused on repairing Ni-based single crystal superalloys using electron beam powder bed fusion technology. In 2024, Yian began his PhD studies at the University of Leicester, where he is investigating the modelling and simulation of novel austenitic stainless steels for power plants, aiming to improve the materials' performance and durability under extreme conditions.

Mingda Tian started his career in 2020 as an architect at Yang Ying Studio, part of the Hunan Province Design Institute, where he focused on architectural material analysis. After earning a Master's degree in Architecture from Cardiff University in 2022, he worked as an Overseas Project Analyst at China State Construction Fifth Engineering Division, specialising in the feasibility analysis of steel structure applications. In 2024, Mingda began his PhD at the University of Leicester, concentrating on the design of niobium microalloyed steels for railway applications, with the goal of optimising the mechanical performance and enhancing the microstructural stability of steels used in critical railway components.

Zhang Shijie graduated from the Leicester International Institute at Dalian University of Technology in 2024. Following his graduation, he embarked on a PhD at the University of Leicester, where his research focuses on Bainitic steels. His work is primarily aimed at improving the resistance of these materials to hydrogen embrittlement, a critical challenge in enhancing the performance of advanced steels in energy and infrastructure applications.
